Master's Programme in Translational Medicine, Master of Science

TRANSMED is the University of Helsinki’s Master’s Programme in Translational Medicine. It covers translational research and translational medicine, with clinical and industrial applications. The programme includes human physiology and anatomy, medical genetics, pharmacology, laboratory medicine, bioinformatics, statistics and R programming, research ethics, and mechanisms of human disease.

The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years of full-time study. Teaching is in English and is delivered as contact teaching on the Meilahti campus in Helsinki. The programme includes a clinical course at Helsinki University Hospital, a research internship or workplace traineeship, study track-specific advanced studies, optional studies, and a 30-credit master’s thesis.

The programme has two study tracks: Translational Research and Health Industry and Innovations. It is designed for applicants with a background in life sciences, bioengineering, natural sciences, bioinformatics, psychology or pharmacy. The University of Helsinki says it prepares students for academic and non-academic careers in the health sector and qualifies both tracks for doctoral studies.
