Urban Studies and Planning, Master of Science in Architecture

The Master’s Programme in Urban Studies and Planning prepares students to address complex urban development challenges. It combines interdisciplinary breadth with depth in core areas of knowledge, skills and practice. Students study theoretical, historical and conceptual knowledge alongside methods, skills and experience.

The programme gives students a broad understanding of urban phenomena and practical experience in collaborative and practical situations. It is a 2-year programme worth 120 ECTS credits and is taught in English through contact teaching. The degree structure includes 60 credits of major studies, 30 credits of elective studies and a 30-credit master’s thesis.

For the architecture specialisation, the degree awarded is Master of Science (Architecture). The programme also includes research-oriented studios, scientific writing and collaboration with the City of Helsinki and other external partners.

For architecture specialisation, the degree given is Master of Science (architecture). Degree qualification in architecture is provided for students who have a B.Sc. in technology or architecture.
