About this program

Bioproducts Engineering is a Master of Science (Technology) programme that studies how wood, plant fibres and other bio-based resources become renewable products. The programme covers molecular-level science, circular bioeconomy, biorefineries and advanced biomaterials. It includes hands-on laboratory work and industry projects.

The two-year programme totals 120 ECTS credits. Major studies take 60–65 ECTS credits, elective studies 25–30 ECTS credits and the master’s thesis 30 ECTS credits. Required and specialisation courses are completed in the first year. The second year is for elective studies and the master’s thesis. Students can choose electives from Aalto or other universities in Finland and abroad.

Aalto University says the programme prepares students for PhD-level studies. Students can specialise in Biomass Refining, Packaging, Wood or Textiles, or take courses from all four specialisations.
