The Chemical Engineering major in Aalto University’s Bachelor’s Programme in Science and Technology gives students a foundation in chemical engineering with a focus on biotechnology and biomaterials. It combines mathematics, programming, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology and engineering. Students work on sustainable materials and processes and on problems such as global warming, emerging diseases and overconsumption.
The bachelor's degree is 180 ECTS and is organised over three years. Each year is divided into 60 credits and includes lectures and hands-on lab courses. The degree includes basic programme studies, the Chemical Engineering major, a minor and elective studies. Year one starts with mathematics, programming and chemical engineering courses. Year two includes about 40 credits of mandatory courses and about 20 elective credits. Year three includes 30 required credits, 30 elective credits and the bachelor’s thesis.
After the bachelor’s degree, students automatically have the right to continue to selected master’s programmes. The full programme leads to the Master of Science (Technology) degree.
