Civil Engineering, Master of Science (Technology)

The Master’s Programme in Civil Engineering focuses on the design and construction of safe and sustainable living environments. Students study environmental issues in construction and learn methods for shaping built environments.

The programme has 120 ECTS credits over two years. It is organised into common and advanced studies, elective studies, and a master’s thesis. The common and advanced courses are meant to be completed before the thesis. Students can choose elective courses from Aalto and from other universities in Finland and abroad. Teaching uses lectures, exercises, and project-based assignments, and the programme cooperates with industry.

Aalto University also offers ready-made study paths in structural engineering, building performance, construction management, mineral-based materials, and structural and computational mechanics and engineering.
