Computer Engineering at Aalto University combines information technology and electrical engineering. You study low-level programming, microelectronics, computer architecture, embedded systems and hardware acceleration. The bachelor’s major includes computer architecture and signal processing alongside the BSc thesis and seminar.
The integrated 3+2 year structure covers 300 ECTS. The bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) includes basic programme studies in mathematics, programming, industrial engineering and management, obligatory languages, Aalto studies and orientation; major studies (65 ECTS) including computer architecture, signal processing, the BSc thesis and seminar; a minor (20–25 ECTS); and elective courses (23–28 ECTS). Teaching is by contact. Studies include lectures, seminars, group work across Aalto, and hands-on projects in labs, for example with the RISC‑V microprocessor built by students. You can take exchange studies, practical training or summer courses abroad.
As a bachelor’s graduate of the Computer Engineering major, you can automatically continue to a master’s degree in the School of Electrical Engineering, including programmes such as Electronics and Nanotechnology or Computer, Communication and Information Sciences. The master’s degree also prepares you for doctoral studies, especially for microchip and system‑on‑chip design and engineering.
