Contemporary Design, Master of Arts (Art and Design)

Contemporary Design is a Master of Arts programme in Art and Design. It explores critical and experimental design practices, from speculative concepts to material explorations and exhibitions. Students develop their own design position while working across disciplines and addressing social, cultural, and environmental issues.

The programme takes 2 years and is taught through contact teaching. The master’s programme comprises 120 ECTS credits. Students complete joint studies in the department, main compulsory studies from the major’s study offering, elective studies in their Personal Study Plan, and a master’s thesis worth 30 ECTS.

The first study year introduces contemporary design cultures and reflective practices, with attention to societal and environmental impact. The second year is devoted to the master’s thesis in the student’s area of specialisation. The programme also allows a possible minor or internship and may include CHEMARTS courses.
