Costume Design: Performing Arts and Film, Master of Arts (Art and Design)

Aalto University’s Costume Design master studies focus on costume design for theatre, dance, musicals, circus, film, television, games, animation and immersive experiences. The programme uses a practice-based approach and covers personal artistic expression, conceptual thinking, creative enquiry, history, theory and research in costume practice.

Students develop artistic and professional skills through hands-on work in film and performing arts productions. The studies include collaboration with directors, scenographers, sound and light designers, cinematographers, actors and dancers. Students can also take part in international events, exhibitions and festivals.

The programme includes advanced compulsory and optional studies, elective studies and a research-oriented master’s thesis. Students can also choose an internship in the field or exchange studies abroad.
