Energy in Buildings and Built Environment is a Master of Science (Technology) major in the Advanced Energy Solutions programme. Aalto University says the major prepares energy engineering specialists to help design sustainable energy systems. Students study energy-efficient buildings, smart building service systems, healthy indoor environments, building technology, building services engineering, and HVAC system design.
The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes 2 years. It is taught in English through contact teaching. The structure includes major studies, elective studies, and a 30-credit master’s thesis. Major studies include compulsory studies shared by all majors in the programme, major-specific compulsory studies, and major-specific optional studies. Topic groups in the major are HVAC Technology, Building Engineering Services, and Building Technology and Energy. Aalto University says students are encouraged to spend a semester abroad, and many students work for an industry partner for the MSc thesis.
The major is designed for students who want to work in HVAC technology, building services engineering, or building technology and energy. Aalto University also says the programme is a foundation for doctoral studies.
