The European Master in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy (Bioceb) is a two-year joint programme in English. It focuses on bioeconomy, biorefinery processes, value-chain sustainability assessment, biomass engineering, bioprocesses and bio-based products. Aalto University says the programme trains future research and innovation managers and prepares students for climate change mitigation and biodiversity preservation.
The programme has four 30-ECTS stages: a joint first semester, a second semester, a third semester and a fourth semester for the Master’s thesis. It begins with an induction week in Reims and includes a summer school in Tallinn. Aalto University takes part in study tracks 3 and 5 and offers courses in bio-based materials, plant resources, fibre processes, surface chemistry, textile fibres and sustainability in the bioeconomy.
Students work on the Green Line project throughout the programme. The page says this project gives students a real industrial challenge and involves groups from at least two countries.
