Mechanical Engineering, Master of Science (Technology)

The Mechanical Engineering Master of Science (Technology) programme develops mechanical engineering knowledge through one of seven majors: Mechatronics, Marine Technology, Product Development, Engineering Materials, Production Engineering, Arctic Marine Technology or Solid Mechanics. The programme covers mechanics, materials, marine, manufacturing and mechatronics, and it includes lectures, seminars, independent work, laboratory work and team projects.

The two-year programme has 120 ECTS credits. It consists of major studies, elective studies and a master’s thesis. In the first semester, students select a major. The first year contains 60 ECTS credits of major and elective studies. The second year deepens advanced and elective studies and ends with a research-based master’s thesis.

Aalto University says the programme builds a foundation for doctoral studies and post-doctoral positions, and it connects study with industry through projects, case studies and many master’s theses carried out with industry.
