Signal Processing and Data Science is a major in Aalto University’s Master’s Programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences. It covers signal processing, data analysis and machine learning. Students learn to extract useful information, discover patterns and make predictions from large amounts of signal or data.
The programme is organised by the School of Electrical Engineering and totals 120 ECTS credits. It can be completed as a long 60 ECTS major or a compact 40 ECTS major. The two-year structure includes major studies, possible minor studies, elective studies and a 30 ECTS master’s thesis. The first year builds foundations in signals and systems modelling and data analysis through courses such as Signal Processing for Communications, Statistical Signal Processing and Large Scale Data Analysis.
Students can shape their studies through minor or elective courses in areas such as biomedical engineering, AI in health technology, financial engineering and data science. Aalto University says the programme has a strong international study environment and includes opportunities for exchange, internships and research projects.
