About this program

The Master’s Programme in Spatial Planning and Transportation Engineering focuses on planning sustainable cities and regions in the face of urbanisation and climate change. It combines technical and human-centered approaches in land use planning and transportation engineering. The programme studies the field from everyday mobility to large-scale strategic and systemic planning.

The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. Common studies make up 35 credits and include six compulsory courses plus a planning studio. Advanced studies make up 25 credits and elective studies 30 credits. The second study year is for elective courses and the Master’s thesis. The structure also makes it possible to take a semester of student exchange during the second year.

Aalto University says graduates can continue to doctoral studies in the Aalto University Doctoral Programme in Engineering.
